The 1955 Austin-Healey 100S has the perfect mixture of beauty and history and on March 14 it will be auctioned off by RM Auctions on Amelia Island. The original reason for its development and production was simply to advance the company’s sporting image by its mere appearance on race tracks around the world. The 100S(The S stands for Sebring) was a custom job as one would not simply purchase one to take a ride to the summer home on Martha’s Vineyard(Unlike the Austin-Healey 100). The 100S has a stripped down all-aluminum body with no bumpers and a four-speed gearbox without overdrive. She was purpose built to destroy her enemies, by wining races.
Only 50 production 100S models were ever built and this particular 100S is the only one that is Spruce Green on the inside and outside. The American Actor Jackie Cooper took delivery of this particular 100S just in time for the 1955 12 Hours of Sebring race in which he placed 42nd.
